Proper sealing of entry points for wildlife prevention

When it comes to dealing with wildlife, the use of the proper material is exponentially important. Unfortunately, animals are often able to chew through the material that a house was built out of. This means that replacing the material that was once there isn’t always the best option. There are times when the job needs a full contractor to complete the work, and in those cases its best to let the contractors do what they do (which is typically replacing the material with the same material) and then calling us to install material over it that is animal proof.

Contractors generally replace destroyed material with the same type of material, and it will look nice, yes. But once the pheromone smell of the animals has been left there, it isn’t going anywhere unless you fully replace all the wood, insulation, and everything that was touched. We offer cleanouts that do a good job getting rid of those smells as well as feces and nest material, but its hard to get rid of that trace 100%. Below are a couple before and after photos of entry points that we sealed with proper material to keep future animal issues from happening. Generally, we will use 22+ guage thickness metal flashing and exterior grade caulking to close many of the types of entry points we come across. In situations where air flow is still necessary (such as gable vents or ridge vents) we will use perforated metal designed for that situation or hardware cloth that gets painted to a matching color. The use of proper materials cannot be stressed enough when working in this field with live animals that will test the durability of what you’ve used.
