My name is Andrew Christopher, and I’m the owner here at Western Mass Wildlife Removal. I’ve spent my whole life living in Massachusetts, and I have been in the wildlife control business since 2016. My childhood consisted of spending time outdoors, riding bikes and exploring, and a huge part of that was playing with wildlife just out of curiosity. I’ve always inherently been interested in animals, probably because I grew up in a house where I was taught that animals are fun, interesting, and necessary.

I would spend time feeding squirrels in the backyard (which included letting them climb on me, but we DO NOT recommend either), going to the local pond and catching water snakes as big as I was, and watching Jeff Corwin and Steve Irwin on TV. I firmly believe that the things you grow up with influence you as you get older and my idea was to turn that into my career.

In my teenage years I spent time working in a metal fabrication shop which was vital in the development of my hand skills including the use of tools and materials which I use every single day working with wildlife and sealing up homes. I think those skills are undervalued by a lot of people, and the things I learned there translate to the success and visual appearance of the work we do on your homes everyday.

Education

My educational background consists of an Associates degree in Business Administration from Holyoke Community College, and a Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, concentrated in Wildlife Biology. Over the years of obtaining my bachelors degree, I built a solid foundation understanding the natural world including how ecosystems work, how wildlife acts and is studied, and the biology of the common fauna here in the Northeast.

I’ve always had a very specific interest in snakes, and even though most people think its odd, they are the most fascinating creatures to me. I worked on project after project studying the Endangered Timber Rattlesnake here in Massachusetts, and made lots of connections in doing so. Understanding wildlife and the basic biology of the common species around here is vital to this line of work, and even though it can be taught on the job, having the background before even getting into this work was a great starting point.

I had always thought the wildlife control and removal business would be interesting, and during those years studying gray, red, and flying squirrels, snakes, groundhog, opossum, skunk, bats, and others has translated to effective eviction and management practices for your home.

I still remember one of my first classes learning about capture, mark, recapture strategies, and we had caught a flying squirrel on the forest floor which is a species I had never seen in person until that point. Now I deal with colonies of them every winter.

After graduating, I began working as a Wildlife Technician with a local company for several years. Through that experience I learned some valuable things, but also witnessed differences in how I would like to complete the work versus what I was taught. Shortly after, I created Western Mass Wildlife Removal and have been operating since early 2019.
